First Solo Flight

Another first today, flying solo. It’s not my first time flying by myself but its the first time since losing my husband. Been 17 years since I last flew solo. Heading off to Iowa to meet a part of the family for the first time. This trip was so overdue, we talked about going so many times. With it brings so many emotions. The tears are so close to the surface, the slightest thing can set them flowing. As I walked through security and out into the terminal for the first time, it hits me. This is it. The first flight without him. Sadness and regret mix together and threaten to spill out. I remind myself we are not going to cry in the airport. The first thing I notice is that the Starbucks has been replaced by a Pete’s Coffee. When did that happen? Not happy.

I board the plane and take my seat. For my first solo flight, I treated myself to first class. As I sit and wait for the rest of the plane to board, drinking my coffee, I can’t help but remember another time we flew first class. A trip down Dallas to visit friends. Seat assignment got mixed up, and they had him seated behind me instead of next to me. I hadn’t paid attention, and he just naturally sat next to me. When the woman who had that seat arrived, she and the flight attendant came over very suspicious that we did not belong. Once I could prove that he was still in 1st class but just the wrong row, the woman offered to trade so we could sit with each other. The flight attendant maintained an attitude the whole flight.

They have turned the lights down, and under the cover of darkness, my watery eyes can go unnoticed. I just let it sink in, I’m sorry you aren’t here with me. I’m pushing on though and so proud of myself. Lansing, here I come.

🌎 Wanderlust Wednesday 🌍

It’s been way to long since I have been able to travel.  I have three trips already purchased and just waiting for the day when it is safe and convenient to travel abroad again.  We had bought and planned them last year before the pandemic hit and had to put them on hold.  The Grenadine islands, Hawaii, and Jamaica.
As of today the CDC still recommends to be fully vaccinated (which I’m not yet), and in order to return must have a negative test result no more than 3 days before travel.

International Travel During COVID-19

My worst fear would be stranded and not able to return home.  So…. waiting it is.

In the meantime I will just keep looking back at photos from travels past and day dreaming I’m back there.

Palm Island is my favorite place to go! Miss it so much!

I love to just bike around the whole island, it so beautiful and peaceful!

This is my favorite beach on the whole island. The hubby and I have our initials carved into that tree from our first visit. Makes me smile everything I visit and see it’s still there. Even made it through a nasty hurricane.

A favorite reading spot. A little sunning, a little reading, a little swimming, repeat.

My library away from home! I spend quite a bit of time here. 🙂

Bliss 🥰

Is it Vacation time yet?

Reading this snippet from Fabier Investigations makes me fantasize about vacation. Can it just be time yet? I want the ocean breeze in my face and the smell of salty sea and tropical flowers. Almost time, 39 days and counting, so close but not soon enough.

Our winter here in Idaho has not been that bad, but I am so ready for it to be over and for the sun to come out. I’m ready for a break. I’m ready to wash away all the stresses of life and soak in the relaxing rays of paradise. Nothing to worry about except what to pick from the restaurant and what book to read next.

Anybody have vacation plans this year?

Hawaii anyone? I vote YES!

In early November we took a week trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. I was not disappointed!

It started off terrible with flight delays due to fog in Seattle. We were an hour and a half behind schedule which was the amount of our next layover. We landed in Seattle just 8 minutes before our next flight to Honolulu was due to take off. The airport was overcrowded so we taxied to the overflow parking and had to take a bus back to airport. So… a bus ride, a tram, and lots of running we made it to our gate in 5 minutes, just 3 minutes to spare! We finally made it to Hilo with some bumps and bruises but can you guess what did not make it? That’s right…our luggage.

Throwback Thursday – November 2017

As road construction has dominated my summer and smoke season had rolled in from nearby wildfires, I find myself daydreaming back to this magical island.

Just a quick ferry ride from the hustle and bustle of Tahiti, Moorea is beautiful and pure relaxation. The overwater bungalows at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon and Spa are exquisite!  The view is just breath taking. While there is lots of activities to do on this island, I prefer to stay in my fabulous bungalow and enjoy the peaceful solitude of just me and my hubby in pure paradise. It doesn’t get any better than that.
