N is for ….

N is for …. Norbert

🐢

Norbert the most handsome Redfoot Tortoise.

N has very good variety, Romance, True Crime, Fantasy, Espionage, etc.

Nicholas Sparks is always a winner.  The Notebook is probably my favorite.  It is in my opinion the definition of love.  Dont we all want someone to love us that much?

There are more books here that I haven’t read than have but I am looking forward to getting to them.

M is for ….

M is for …. Macbeth

M is every genre and for everyone.  We have a bit of everything here…thrillers, horror, romance, true crime, and more.

I have always been a big Shakespeare fan.  Pretty much it all started with Romeo and Juliet when I was required to read it in the 8th grade.  Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite but I have not been able to find a copy yet.

Macbeth is a classic and probably the most popular.  I picked up Jo Nesbo’s rendition a few years ago at a library sale.  It is so good!  A modern spin that worked excellent!  If you haven’t read it, you should.

L is for ….

L is for …. Lily

🐢 Lily, the beautiful Brazilian Cherry Head Redfoot Tortoise is enjoying her photo shoot with a yummy piece of Lettuce, straight from the garden.

I had no idea I had this many L books!  I see that “Last” and “Love” are extremely popular title starters.

Lord of the Flies is a classic for a reason!  Such an unfiltered glimpse into the human psyche when left to its own devises. I read this book for the first time in school and just reread it again 2 years ago.  If you havent read it since school either, I highly suggest you add it to your TBRR – To Be ReRead pile.

👠 Lust Killer – One of my favorite Ann Rule books!  It might be weird calling a book on a serial killer a favorite but not for me.  I am a true crime fanatic and it fills the majority of my life.  I am drawn to Ann Rule’s cases from the Pacific Northwest because it’s my home.  Well technically, I live in the Inland Northwest but we all like to consider it the PNW.  Anyway, this is one that true crime fans should check out, Jerry Brudos was one twisted psychopath.

The Life of David Gale, this was an incredible book and the movie is pretty much word for word so you can choose either option.  College Professor David Gale is an advocate for the abolishment for the death penalty.  He is found guilty of the rape and murder of his best friend but has always stood by his claim of innocence.  A week before his execution date he agrees to do a series of interviews with journalist Bitsy Bloom.

K is for ….

K is for …. Khaleesi

Khaleesi (the Bearded Dragon) approves this message.

A nice stack of K’s here.  Nora Roberts, Ann Rule, Iris Johansen, Dean Koontz, all good ones but there is one that stands out among the rest.

The Kite Runner… This was a beautifully written, heart breaking and moving story. One that I could not put down, and weighs heavy on my heart still to this day.  I read this book last year and it changed me. “There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife’s right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness.”

Having grown up only knowing Afghanistan as it is today, it was so eye opening to be shown what it was before war came and took ahold of it for 40 years. Makes you wonder what it could have been, or maybe what it can become.

Through out the story, you want Amir to make the right decisions and time and time again he disappoints. You want him to realize what a wonderful and pure person he has devoted to him in Hassan. But will that realization come too late? “Children aren’t coloring books. You don’t get to fill them with your favorite colors.”

I urge anyone who has not read this book yet to add to your TBR pile.

J is for ….

J is for …. Jurassic Park

I have read both of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park and The Lost World.  They are good and very entertaining.  But Steven Spielberg took these to the next level!  “Hold onto your butts.”  It’s pretty rare when I love a movie over it’s book, but Jurassic Park is one.  It is actually one of my favorite movies of all time, I torture my husband because we watch it so much.  I just never get bored with it.  My love of dinosaurs first came about after I read Dinotopia when I was a child.  Love it!

Another classic novel, that should be required reading in my opinion, is The Jungle.  The book was written to showcase the horrible treatment that immigrants faced at the turn of the century.  “It describes the terrible working conditions in meatpacking plants, the squalid housing, the ruthlessness of employers, the sexual harassment, the lure of alcoholism and prostitution, the political corruption, the misery of life in jail.  It depicts a world where honest, descent people are transformed into cogs in a huge industrial machine.”

What it ended up doing was bringing a spot light to the meatpacking industry and the completely appalling and unsanitary conditions of them.  At the time the book published, Theodore Roosevelt was president and he loved to read books.  He read The Jungle and felt that much of what was descibed was accurate.  He ordered several investigations into the meatpacking industry and ultimately passed the Pure Food and Drugs Act and the Meat Industry Inspection Act.

I is for….

I is for …. IT! 🎈🤡

Stephen King is my #1 and always has been.  Surprisingly, I have never read IT but it is on my TBR this year, coming up soon in fact.  The size of the book was just so intimidating that I have put it off.  Until now!  I absolutely LOVE the new movies Chapter 1 and 2. Good and creepy scary just like I like them.

🎈

Clearly I like Irish books as well.  I am definitely a sucker for an Ireland setting, I have always been drawn to them. I recently did a DNA test and discovered that I am majority Irish heritage, so it makes sense why I have an affinity towards them.

🎈

I recently watched a documentary about John Grisham’s The Innocent Man and I can’t wait to read the book now.  This is his first nonfiction work.

“If you believe that in America you are innocent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you. If you believe the criminal justice system is fair, this book will infuriate you.”

H is for ….

H is for …. Harry Potter if course!

“H” is another good listing! Some big names here like the Harry Potter series (only a couple shown), The Hunger Games, The Host, The Hobbit and Helter Skelter.

Hogwarts certainly is where my heart lies.  As I write this I am snuggled up in my Hogwarts blanket, with my Racenclaw socks on.  I love both the books and the movies.  I have just recently started to reread them.   My husband and I have a christmas tradition where we watch all the movies back to back.  I have 6 Red Foot Tortoises and they are all named for HP charaters, Norbert, Lily, Trevor, Dobby, Winky, and Fang.

I recently received an ARC of Hideaway from St. Martin’s Press and I am so excited to read it!  I dont think that I will be able to get to it before its publication date of 5/26 as I have a pretty packed reading schedule already but maybe I can squeeze it in somewhere.  Nora Roberts is always so tempting to side track for, though.  My favorite romance author hands down!  I am NEVER disappointed in her books.  When I have a heavy thriller/true crime spree it is so nice to break it up with one of her books.

What is your favorite Nora Roberts book?

G is for ….

G is for …. Guernsey 🇬🇬

“G” has some great books, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl on the Train, The Gunslinger, and The Green Mile, but for me The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society holds my heart! ❤

Before 2016, I had never even heard of this book.  It wasn’t exactly “my type” of book, as you can tell from my other books shown here.  But the story of how this book came in to my possession proves it was meant to be.

It was August 2016, and I was browsing at my favorite used book store with a friend, just killing some time.  We were just discussing some of the books we were finding and the type of books we like to read when this woman, a stranger I have never seen before, comes up to me and hands me a book.  She says to me “You have to buy this book” and then she just turns and walks away.  I was speechless, thinking that was the weirest encounter I have ever had.  I look at this book that was just handed to me and think what a strange title.  The whole thing was just so odd that I decided I had no choice, I had to follow the woman’s direction and I bought the book.

Now I didn’t read this book right away, no.  It ended up taking me over a year before I finally got to it.  Like I said, this book was not my style, not my normal interest, and it was just a bunch of letters put together to make story, ugh no thank you.  Finally, in 2017, the reading challenge that I was completing had the perfect prompt, I could no longer ignore this book, A Book Someone Else Has Recommended to You.

I devoured this book in 1 day.  I just could not stop reading it.  I laughed, I cried, I loved it!

Since then I have forced this book on everyone I know and make them read it. They all look at me the same way I did, “really, you want me to read this?” They have never been disappointed.

So.. this is me, a stranger to you, coming up and handing you this book, telling you, you must buy it.

F is for …

F is for …. Fire 🔥

A whole lot of “firey” reads here!  I have read about half this shelf and some are a few of my favorites.

King is always a top author of mine, my first favorite that I can remember.  I have to thank my mom for first introducing me to him.

Find Me by J.S. Monroe was a very good read!  I enjoyed it from start to finish. Kept me guessing every step of the way.

After the first half, I thought I had a good grasp on what was going on. Once the second half started, it threw me for a loop and I didn’t know what to think.

How deep is your love? Would you refuse to believe your loved one was dead when everyone around you thinks your crazy and you need to move on? I love Jar’s commitment and rooted for him the entire time. A big recommendation to all thriller lovers for this one!

E is for…

E is for …. Easter! 🐇🐣

Happy Easter everyone!  This is the first Easter I have spent away from my extended family in many years.  I miss my grandparents but I want to keep them safe by staying away and staying home.  Thanks Corona!

I hope that all of you were able to do something special on this day, no matter what your beliefs are.

Either “E” is another good one for thrillers or the more likely is that I have mostly thrillers in my collection. 😂 A good group either way, I am saddened to say that I have only read 1 of these so far but I am looking forward to the rest…some day.
