E is for…

E is for …. Easter! 🐇🐣

Happy Easter everyone!  This is the first Easter I have spent away from my extended family in many years.  I miss my grandparents but I want to keep them safe by staying away and staying home.  Thanks Corona!

I hope that all of you were able to do something special on this day, no matter what your beliefs are.

Either “E” is another good one for thrillers or the more likely is that I have mostly thrillers in my collection. 😂 A good group either way, I am saddened to say that I have only read 1 of these so far but I am looking forward to the rest…some day.

Book Review – Jamie Quinn Mystery Collection

Jamie Quinn Mystery Collection: Box Set Books 1-3 by Barbara Venkataraman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cozy Murder Mystery

“My name is Jamie Quinn and after ten years of practicing law, I’ve seen it all. You wouldn’t think a sleepy town like Hollywood, Florida would have much drama, but it does. The judge who swore me in had warned me, saying, ‘You’ll never believe what goes on between four walls,’ and he was right; it’s unbelievable.”

Book 1 – DEATH BY DIDGERIDOO
“You can’t make stuff like that up. I mean, who would’ve imagined a didgeridoo could be a deadly weapon?”
Jamie Quinn is a divorce lawyer taking some time off after the death of her mother to cancer. Her aunt calls her in a panic one day stating the cops have arrested Jamie’s autistic cousin for murder and they need her help. She knows that her cousin did not murder anyone, he couldn’t hurt a fly but the evidence is not looking good. To help her find the real killer, because clearly the police are not looking, she enlists the help of PI and ladies man, Duke Broussard.
“Okay, but before I tell you my long story that involves a heavy metal band, a murder, and a state attorney with political ambitions, I need to make one thing clear…” Duke’s green eyes were watching me closely, he loved a good story. “What’s that, Darlin?” “This is not a date.”

D is for …

D is for …. Dark and Deadly.

“D” is another very popular start for True Crime and Thrillers.

Dark Tribute, Dark Summer, Darkness, The Dark Half, Dark Places.

Dead Aim, Deadlock, Deadly Deceit,  Deadly Lust, Dead and Buried, Deadly Pretender, Deadly Devotion, Dead Reconing.

Several on this list are from Iris Johansen.  She is by far one of my very favorite authors!  I LOVE the Eve Duncan series!  Eve’s daughter was murdered when she was 5 years old and her body was never found.  This drove Eve to  become a forensic sculpter, she reconstructions skulls so that they can be identified.  Helping the FBI, Atlanta PD, and occasionally the CIA to bring home lost ones to their families and hopefully one day to bring home her Bonnie.   She is always getting involved in some dangerous cases and situations that put her life in peril.  These books are thrilling and full of danger and excitement, I also enjoy the science behind forensic sculpting.  I highly recommend it, if interested, the first 3 novels are The Face of Deception, The Killing Game, and The Search.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!  There are 26 books in the series and counting. There is also several spin off series too that I enjoy.

Book Review – The Curse of Sara Douroux

The Curse of Sara Douroux by C.A. Wittman

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Horror Thriller

“What must her life be like, I often wonder, living as a human.”

Sara Douroux lives on the island of Maui with her elderly adoptive parents. She doesn’t remember anything of her childhood or of coming to live in Hawaii. She can remember a year ago she got very sick, so sick she almost died. Her parents are set in the old ways, no doctors, no telephone, and very private, Sara is not allowed to have friends. A letter comes in the mail one day to her parents and they tell Sara that four cousins will be coming to stay with them for a month.
Not long after, four pale white young children arrive. They are so sick that they can barely walk or talk but Sara is told that under no circumstances is she to feed them. As soon as the children arrive, strange occurrences start to happen. The children seem to be growing daily, even through they never eat. Locals begin to see a pale white woman watching them at night. March Recap

3 Books

1,122 pages

Average Rating 3.7

Fabier Investigations 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Too Late to Say Goodbye 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The Curse of Sara Douroux 🌟🌟🌟

Some how March is over already.  I hope you all had a better reading month than I did.  I was only able to finish 3, and no 5 🌟 for the 2nd month in a row.

As most of us have been ordered to Stay Home and Stay Safe, I was hoping to be able to use that as an opportunity to get some much needed reading done.  But that is not what I was able to do, clearly.  I already work from home so that hasn’t changed.  I was more worried about how my family was doing with everything going on.  So I spent a lot more time on the phone talking and facetimeing with them instead.

The puppy is still requiring a lot of time and attention as expected and we also rescued two juvenile redfoot tortoises (we already had 3, so up to 5 now 😳).  I am hoping that soon our lives will return to normal a bit, for my sanity’s sake.

I am very thankful to James R. Hemmings and C.A.Wittman forproviding me with copies of their books to read and review.

C is for….

C is for …. Cross, Alex Cross.

“C” is definitely full of Cross titles as expected, taking out all my James Patterson’s there is still Crossroads of Twighlight and Cross Bones.

Speaking of Crossroads of Twightlight, I 💗 the Wheel of Time series!  For anyone who is a fan of Fantasy books like Game of Thrones, I highly recommend this series by Robert Jordan.  I read it about 15 years ago.  I instantly fell in love with them and just could not get enough.  Just binge read one after the other.  I was devastated when Robert Jordan passed away, what a great loss for the literary world.  The series was finished by Brandon Sanderson.   When Jordan realized that he was not going to beat his illness and may not be able to finish on his own, he brought Sanderson into the fold as well as left copious notes so he would be able to finish the series as intended.  I will be honest, I have been too chicken to finish it.  I know that one of these days I need to put my fear behind me and just do it.

Do you have a series that you are afraid to finish?

Book 11:  Hawaii

“Something wicked, something dark has Sara’s family in its grip.  An insidious terror will soon sweep through the small valley where Sara lives, threatening the lives of her neighbors.  In a race to discover the truth of who her cousins really are, Sara forms a tenuous friendship with an unlikely pair:  Jenny, a shy newcomer to the island, and Sunami, a tomboyish local girl.  As the girls discover a chilling truth, they realize to their horror that time is running out and some secrets should never be disturbed.”

B is for…

B is for …. Beaches or Bones.

“B” is very popular for the True Crime and Murder Mystery genres; bones, bodies, Black Dahlia.  Those are my favorites so… I have a few.

Black is also very popular, just in my collection alone there is Black Hawk Down, The Black Dahlia, Black Rose, Black Hills, and The Black Book.

As you can see, I like to purchase used books.  They have so much character to them and I like to imagine all the places they have been.  Which ones were loved and which were mistreated.  I scour thrift stores, yard sales, and libraries for my finds.  The only new books I have are ones that have been given to me.

Which do you prefer, new or used?

A is for…

A is for …. Amber of course 😁!

I am in love with #alphastack!  Started by @puellalegit and when I saw the first posts on IG it looked so fun and I knew I wanted to join in!  Pretty much any challenge that involves my books, you can count me in!

First up, of course is the letter “A”.  I did avoid many titles that just started with A xx, for example A Rose For Her Grave. There was more on my shelves than I thought there would be.  A couple are missing as I have loaned them out.  One of my favs being A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton!  I love to share my favorite books with others.

This is a pretty fair representation of my style.  Historical Fiction, True Crime, Romance, Thriller, I love them all!

I can’t wait to keep this going!  Stay tuned for more!
